Super Besse

The Belarusian duo Super Besse – made up of Maksim Kulsha and Alex Sinica – channels the frosty spirit of ’80s post-punk while also laying a cold hand on contemporary club aesthetics. Their path so far is marked by three albums (»63610«, »La Nuit«, »Un Rêve«) – full of hypnotic basslines, clattering drum machines, and synths that glow with the melancholy of streetlights in concrete wastelands. Originally based in Minsk (now living in Berlin and Warsaw), the band took its name from a French ski resort – whose postcode gave their debut album its title. Despite the French name, they sing in Russian, which adds another layer to their sound. Fittingly, their music videos and stage designs often draw on Soviet-era housing block aesthetics. Coldwave meets Eastern European realism.
