Spill the Tea: Social Media und Popkultur (DE)

This talk explores how social media has become both a zeitgeist and a pressure point – raising questions about performance, expectations, and identity. Especially at the intersection of rap, fashion, and (queer-)feminist discourse, visibility becomes both a currency and a burden.

Rapper Yung FSK18, originally from Halle and also performing at this year’s Pop-Kultur Festival, knows how to tear up any party. But her hyper-affirmation of hip-hop clichés and trashy mix-drink aesthetics also serves as a critique of the machismo within her own scene.

Anne Löhr is a clinical-systemic psychologist who has supported musicians – particularly emerging artists – for over a decade through stress, anxiety, and crises. As a speaker and lecturer focused on mental health, she works with institutions such as the Reeperbahn Festival and Landstreicher Booking.

Misla Tesfamariam worked with Childish Gambino on his album »Because the Internet« and managed Alli Neumann from 2018 to 2024, co-founding the label JAGA Recordings with her in 2021. Today, Misla supports emerging talent via her platform imni.studio, offering coaching for artists and professionals.

Both Anne Löhr and Misla Tesfamariam will also be leading workshops as part of the Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs programme.

The talk is moderated by Amina Aziz, co-editor-in-chief of Missy Magazine. After studying Islamic Studies, she initially worked in academia before following her passion for pop culture and sociopolitical issues – and joining the editorial team at Missy.
