MALONDA: »Schwarze Medusa – I’m tryin not to lose my head again«

Must we imagine Medusa as a tragic figure? In Achan Malonda’s performance, Medusa – influencer, life coach, and cancelled woman – wrestles with myths and other lies. Broadcasting live from Hades, she unpacks the evidence of her life: from her first experience of sexualised violence, through the stone-cold archive of male admirers, to her murder at the hands of a white man – aided by a white woman.
Told in seven cantos – a blend of original songs, video art, and monologues – this work does not bring ancient myths into the present; instead, it traces the modern world of destruction and petrification back to its Western roots. And maybe it is Medusa herself who can rewrite the story – if only she could look herself in the eye. MALONDA’s Commissioned Work is a mix of music, performance, and comedy – with costumes made from braids and visuals, some of created especially for this piece.
Achan Malonda uses Afrofuturist elements not to sketch utopias or highlight their impossibility, but as a techno-psychological critique of the present – a bridge between brainrot and barbarism.
Inspired by artists like Hildegard Knef and Grace Jones, Achan Malonda creates a bold kind of art that always takes a stand.
