Güner Künier

The power in Güner Künier’s music is hard to put into words. Imagine playing Peaches, Altin Gün, and DAF all at once – that might give you an idea of what to expect (though you don’t have to). Her second album is out now: it’s called »Yaramaz«, a Turkish word meaning »good-for-nothing« or »rascal«. It‘s an ironic nod to her own life story – one that turned out very differently from what traditional expectations for a »Turkish girl« might have dictated. She studies industrial engineering, paints, and acts – but her true passion is music. Künier blends the Turkish pop of her childhood with punk and underground energy (she’s a big Sonic Youth fan). For her, making music is an act of rebellion – loud and clear.
