Faravaz

Music as an act of liberation. For Iranian-born singer and performer Faravaz, staying silent was never an option – even though women in Iran are banned from performing solo in public under threat of persecution and repression. Facing prison for her art and activism, she was forced to seek asylum in Germany. On her debut album »Azadi« – the Persian word for »freedom« – and in her powerful live shows, Faravaz channels her love of music, her rage against patriarchy and oppression, and her passion for pop, chanson, and classical Iranian singing. A performance by Faravaz is moving, uplifting – and a living act of resistance against all those who want to silence and suppress women.
