»DIY or die?« – Strategien selbstorganisierter Kulturarbeit im Osten

In this panel, members of the alternative music scene in eastern Germany exchange views on questions of space and (counter-)culture. How can local scenes be nurtured and spaces found – and held – in a political climate that is increasingly hostile to culture? The discussion will also address navigating between rigid funding structures and the desire for self-governance.
We want to explore the urgency of safe spaces for marginalised people, the radical potential of pop outside metropolitan areas, and questions around specifically East German perspectives on subculture and resistance.
