Blackmoonchild & Ziggy Zeitgeist (Co-Creation Residency: Detroit — Berlin)

Musicboard Berlin, in cooperation with the Detroit-Berlin-Connection and the ZK/U – Centre for Art and Urbanistics, awards a Co-Creation Residency to one solo artist based in Berlin and one based in Detroit, both working in the field of electronic music.
As part of the residency, the two artists collaborate on a joint production – first during the Berlin-based artist’s stay in Detroit, then during the international artist’s stay in Berlin.
The result of this collaboration will be premiere at Pop-Kultur – the festival organised by Musicboard Berlin.
The Co-Creation Residency fosters artistic exchange and transcontinental cooperation.

Blackmoonchild is a self-taught producer and DJ from Detroit, known for fusing classic techno with bold, futuristic soundscapes. Raised in Flint, Michigan, she was first shaped by hip-hop and R&B before turning to metal and screamo – later drawing inspiration from Detroit’s high-energy sound. Her productions stand out for their experimental sampling and unexpected pairings: Victoria Monét vocals layered over raw electro grooves, or 90s R&B blended with Chicago juke beats. As co-founder and resident DJ of Blueprint – a black femme-led Detroit party – she plays a key role in reshaping the city‘s club culture. She has collaborated with a growing constellation of forward-thinking artists, including Suzi Analogue, Danny Daze, Ectomorph, AMX, and Bearcat.

Born in Australia and based in Berlin, producer, DJ, and drummer Ziggy Zeitgeist blends jazz, electronic music, and urban sounds into a dynamic signature style. A key member of the Australian nu-soul and future-jazz collective 30/70, he shapes a distinctly modern sonic aesthetic. Whether performing solo or collaborating with artists like Àbáse, Wayne Snow, or Horatio Luna, Ziggy Zeitgeist is continually exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation. Releases such as »Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange« and »Kreuzberg Kix Vol. 1« reflect his ambition to fuse jazz, house, broken beat, and electronic music into a unique sonic universe. With the project Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange (ZFEX), which he co-founded and now leads in Europe, he coined the term »Hi-Tech Jazz« to describe this fusion.Beyond his musical work, Ziggy Zeitgeist is also active as a curator and organiser, bringing strong social and political perspectives into urban culture.
