Ever since Neil Tennant, we’ve known: former journalists often make the best pop stars. Like the Pet Shop Boys mastermind, Annika Henderson traded the newsroom for the studio – and never looked back. Since 2010, she has been crafting a distinct post-punk-pop universe under the moniker Anika – a world anchored in music but equally shaped by film, literature, and art. That broad creative scope is reflected in an impressive list of collaborators, including Jim Jarmusch, Tricky, Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel. With »Anika«, »Change«, and most recently »Abyss« – recorded live at Berlin‘s legendary Hansa Studios – Henderson has, across three albums and over fifteen years, continually unveiled new facets of herself while engaging with the pressing issues of our time.
